In 1967-68, Roman Catholic Priest of St. Boniface worked with the NAACP Youth Council and other groups on issues of segregation and open housing. Joining the marchers was the venerable Vel Phillips, first African American woman to win a seat on Milwaukee’s City Council, first to be elected as a Secretary of State in Wisconisin.
